A Dream Team in the Making – The History of ZMC
Starting work in shop at 16 years old‚ George Ziaja spent the early part of his career working at a highly regarded machine shop where he completed his apprenticeship and worked in every position and learning to run every piece of equipment in the shop. He later moved into a supervisory role and eventually became General Manager/Sales. As the shop’s focus shifted to larger commercial accounts‚ Ziaja saw an opportunity to start his own company and target the smaller businesses with which he could form a partnership and grow together. Since 1995 ZMC has done just that and continues to do so.
The majority of our business has come from customer referrals and George’s personal reputation as a problem-solver quickly became his hallmark as he surrounds himself with well-trained‚ highly qualified machinists who take great pride in their work.
The J.S. Richardson Division
In August of 2000‚ ZMC purchased J.S.Richardson Company‚ known in the Industry for its design and manufacture of precision and production woodworking machinery.
Among the first machines to be developed (which are still being used) are the bending machines‚ resaw-attachment‚ boring and chucking machines‚ knives and cutter heads. One of the boring and chucking machines‚ known as the TypeX‚ received almost unanimous acclaim by the juvenile furniture and almost every baby crib produced in the United States since 1939‚ have had the key manufacturing performed by this machine. In addition‚ J.S. Richardson produced equipment spinning and turning of wood golf club heads‚ bowling pins‚ guitar necks‚ hammer handles‚ and duck decoys.
J.S.Richardson is also well known for its manufacturing of special gun stock equipment. The first line of gun stock equipment made was for the United States Army: the M-1-.30 caliber Carbine. This line was so successful that additional lines for this same gunstock were immediately ordered by government agencies.
